Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY)

Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) is a scheme launched by the Hon'ble Prime Minister on April 8, 2015 for providing loans up to ₹10 lakh (₹20 lakh for those entrepreneurs who have availed and successfully repaid previous loans under the 'Tarun' category) to the non-corporate, non-farm small/micro enterprises. These loans are classified as MUDRA loans under PMMY. These loans are given by Commercial Banks, RRBs, Small Finance Banks, MFIs and NBFCs. The borrower can approach any of the lending institutions mentioned above or can apply online through this portal www.mudrafinance.online. Under the aegis of PMMY, MUDRA has created four products namely 'Shishu', 'Kishor', 'Tarun' and 'TarunPlus' to signify the stage of growth / development and funding needs of the beneficiary micro unit / entrepreneur and also provide a reference point for the next phase of graduation / growth.

Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) is a flagship scheme of the Government of India to provide loans up to ₹10 lakh (now up to ₹20 lakh for specific categories) to non-corporate, non-farm small and micro-enterprises. These loans are classified as MUDRA loans under PMMY and are provided by Commercial Banks, RRBs, Small Finance Banks, MFIs, and NBFCs.

Any Indian Citizen who has a business plan for a non-farm sector income-generating activity such as manufacturing, processing, trading, or service sector and whose total loan requirement is up to ₹20 lakh can approach a Bank, MFI, or NBFC for availing of MUDRA loans under PMMY.

Under PMMY, MUDRA has created four products:
  • Shishu: Covering loans up to ₹50,000/-
  • Kishor: Covering loans above ₹50,000/- and up to ₹5 Lakh
  • Tarun: Covering loans above ₹5 Lakh and up to ₹10 Lakh
  • TarunPlus: Covering loans above ₹10 Lakh and up to ₹20 Lakh

As per the guidelines of RBI, MUDRA loans are collateral-free. No security or collateral is required to be provided by the borrower to the lending institution. However, the loans may be covered under credit guarantee schemes of the government.

Borrowers can approach any of the lending institutions like Commercial Banks, RRBs, Small Finance Banks, MFIs, and NBFCs or can apply online through this portal. The application process is simplified to ensure quick disbursement and support for micro-entrepreneurs.
